Work

I started work this past Monday and living with Ryan, and I have to say, I’m really happy with it.  I really like the kind of work that I do, and I think this will be an alright summer.  I was originally scared that I would hate everything: working, living away from home, having no friends, but I am really happy with this summer thus far.  I hope everything is going well for the rest of you.

Summer

I’ve been on break for a couple of days, and I have one more day at home before I start working for real.  I’m scared, but really excited at the same time.  It seems like this is going to be another one of those breaks where I just sit around by myself.  Oh well, it happens.  Here’s to the summer of ‘08.

It Is May

….and for those around these parts, that means Reading Day.  Today was reading day, as finals begin tomorrow.  Today was a nice relaxing day of studying for physics and turning in an application for a business minor.  It’s a shame that I didn’t get any new Medic achievements today, but I’ve done 17 of them and I have been playing around with the Blutsauger, and I think it is one of the best weapons in the game.  To be honest, I don’t really care about any of the other Medic weapons, but I’d like to knock off a good chunk of the achievements before I live at a friend’s house over the summer with no internet.

This Past Weekend

Filed under: Divulgences, Movies, Technical — joeblow1102 @ 11:42 pm

…was exactly what I needed.  It was a lot of hanging out by myself, but it was so relaxing.  I did pretty much no schoolwork and it was a weekend of many firsts.  Well, let me talk about the movies first.  I saw Fido and When A Stranger Calls on Free On-Demand.  I enjoyed When A Stranger Calls; it had a lot of those jump scenes, except it fizzled in the middle and the end.  The suspense at the beginning was good though.  I think we expected Fido to be a horror film, but it definitely wasn’t that.  Since I had that mentality, I didn’t think it was that good.  It was just slow and boring.

Facebook Chat

Facebook chat, from what I can tell, was just unrolled to the University of Illinois network.  Or I am just special for some reason.  I see this nice friendly message when I log in to Face:

Lots Of Random Things

Filed under: Diversions, Divulgences, Movies — joeblow1102 @ 3:52 pm

First of all, more random movies from On Demand.  The Shaft and Candy Stripers.  I don’t really feel like giving reviews for these.  We saw Street Kings in theaters.  It was really long and the story was relatively uninteresting.  Also, so many things had to happen for the plot to play out like it did.

Last night, I saw Jack’s Mannequin in concert at Illinois Wesleyan University.   Let me just say that Andrew McMahon is so talented.  This concert was fantastic!  Um, two thoughts.  I never realized how much I missed you until I saw you last night.  I hope you remain as happy as you are now.  Actually, I won’t talk about the other thing.  It was about those girls behind us.

It’s probably bad, but I’m already planning on how I’m getting home and what to do this summer.  I’m also really excited to start a technical job for the first time.  It should be a true application of my knowledge, and I’m going to go at it to the best of my abilities.

Some Knowledgeable People

I was in the computer labs over the weekend.  Surprise, surprise.  Anyway, I set my keyboard layout there to Dvorak for some reason and I got up to look at a friend’s code.  This guy tries to jump on my computer, actually, it was more of I let him sit there and he took the liberty to try to go to a website.  He realizes he can’t type with my keyboard layout, and instead of criticizing me or saying my keyboard’s broken, he asks what language is your keyboard in.  There really are some knowledgeable people in this world.  It’s a shame this particular person wasn’t an attractive, single female.   :-(

Disk vs. Disc

I’m currently studying for an exam and I was talking to someone online about the material.  We were talking about the hierarchy of hard drives and platters and tracks and sectors and I got to thinking: what’s the difference between a disk and a disc.  It turns out there actually is one; it isn’t just an English major’s fantasy.  I’ll let you discover the difference yourself, if you’re so inclined.

Nothing Is Working

This is actually not a post about my emotional state of affairs.  We’re nearing the end of the semester, the time when professors should’ve worked out all of the kinks of their lesson plans and learned from mistakes made earlier in the semester.  Nope, this semester has gone down really quick.  I’m not going to name any specifics, but we’ve gotten just busywork assignments and assignments that are very poorly worded, and way open to interpretation.  In a world where what you do is either right or wrong, this is unacceptable.  In another class, something that was supposed to be uploaded on Thursday wasn’t uploaded until about an hour or so ago.  It’s due tomorrow night and I have a very packed day tomorrow.  What would’ve happened if I sleep at like 9?  No points for me.  Computer things have just stopped working.  For some reason, I don’t have the proper permissions to access my own files so that a prep assignment for tomorrow can’t be done.  All this added with the fact that I just want to get out of here and start summer are really frustrating me right now.

End of the Semester Apathy

It could either be that we’re nearing the end of the semester, or it could be the fact that the assigments are just terrible (or a mix of both), but I’m starting to get that end of the semester apathy.  I just want to sit around and enjoy the nice weather (besides today of course).  Or I’d rather get an assignment that doesn’t just feel like busy work.
