Forgetting Qwerty
Today was the first time that I tried typing on one of the computer lab computers. I started freaking out because of course those computers are setup to type in Qwerty. When I tried to change the keyboard layout, it asked for the root password. The same happened when I tried to access the language menu. What to do? What to do? I tried setxkbmap -variant dvorak as worked on my Ubuntu virtual machine. An error occured? Oh no. What to do? I went back to the trusty Dvorak zine, and they said to just do setxkbmap dvorak. No error message. I tried my left hand. Oh happy days! aoeu came up and it made me happy. Anyway, I don’t think I can type in Qwerty anymore and it seems like Dvorak has taken over my brain. I have to look at the keys to type in Qwerty and oh man, it is really frustrating. It’s also frustrating that I can’t type at my original Qwerty speed yet and I’m nowhere near as accurate at even a slower pace. I’m definitely getting better though, and I’m starting to feel more confident in this whole Dvorak thing. I also, in the lab, did all of my coding in Dvorak and it was weird because it was the first time using the {} keys and I didn’t remember that <> were above comma and the period. Anyway, I’m off to Dvorak-ize more!
